Szepsy, Úrágya 63 2020
Without putting too finer a point on it, Szepsy are one of the world's greatest wine producing families, located in the heart of Tokaji, Hungary. Going back 18 generations to the 1500s, it has always been in the same family and it's quality has certainly stood the test of time with the latest generation winning Europe's Best Fine Wine Producer at the Golden Vines awards in 2022. Szepsy is a name synonymous with prestige, and when you pull a Szepsy cork you know the wine inside is going to be second-to-none. Úrágya 63 2020 is made from 100% Furmint from the storied region on Tokaji, Hungary. A hand-selected wine from parcel 63 of possibly the most famous single vineyard in Tokaji: Úrágya. The 2000 vintage of Szepsy’s Úrágya is remembered as the one that put Tokaji firmly back on the international wine map, and the current vintage is at least as exceptional as that one was. The grapes were hand-harvested and aged in new large oak vats for 7 months prior to release. The nose is layered with notes of peach, pear, apple, salt and oak. The palate is rich and warm, with shades of minerality and a smoky, intense finish.
